The Gateway to Lake Martin
Alexander City with a population of over 15,000 is located on the shores of beautiful Lake Martin with 44,000 acres of clean sparkling water and 750 miles of shoreline dotted with cabins, condominiums, homes, restaurants, marinas and Wind Creek State Park.
Alexander City is the home of Russell Corporation Athletic Apparel and Equipment and boasts of an outstanding medical facility. Russell Medical Center houses a cancer center, a new rehabilitation wing, a professional office building, eighty-one private room beds, and sixty-six physicians on staff.
Alexander City Schools, grade K-12, are accredited through Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and were ranked third in the state on a recent "report card" on state schools. A community initiated scholarship program, "Gateway to Education", provides a two year college education from Central Alabama Community College to all students attending Benjamin Russell High School who have earned at least a "C" average. Central Alabama Community College is the home of the Betty Carol Graham Technology Center that provides training of the workforce for high-tech industries.
Alexander City has a large group of active senior citizens who will soon enjoy their own building located in the 212 acre Charles E. Bailey, Sr. Recreational Complex. The complex is known for its outstanding programs and facilities.
The city continues to be aggressive in recruiting industry and new businesses. The Lake Martin Economic Development Alliance formed in1998 has a full time staff, actively pursuing new industry. The Alliance is a regional partnership between Coosa and Tallapoosa Counties, and in conjunction with the Lake Martin Area Industrial Development Authority has developed two industrial parks in which four new diverse industries are located. U.S. 280, our primary corridor, provides quick access to Birmingham, Montgomery, and Atlanta, Georgia and T.C. Russell Airfield contributes in making Alexander City a progressive city with a bright future.
