The
City of Alexander City Gas Department is dedicated to safety and
customer satisfaction. We have been quietly, safely and reliably delivering
gas to our 4,200 customers since 1952 at one of the lowest rates of
any of the surrounding communities. We strive to maintain our system,
install new services and expand as our community grows.

Q:
What do I do if I smell gas?
A:
If you smell gas inside leave immediately, leaving the door open for
ventilation. Go to a neighbor's and telephone the gas department during
normal working hours at (256) 409-2070; after hours, weekends and
holidays call the Alexander City Police Department at (256) 234-3421.
Do not use any source of ignition (ie: light switch, matches, flashlight
or telephone).
Q:
Why is my gas bill so high?
A: If you feel your gas bill is too high and you do not smell gas,
you need to first contact the Utility Department to have your meter
reread. If, at that time, you are still not satisfied you can call
the Gas Department for further investigation.
Q:
Why can't I get gas into my home?
A:
If the gas has been off for awhile the line sometimes gets air in
it and needs to be purged so the flame will contine to burn when lit.
Very seldom will a gas meter lock up; however, it does happen. That
problem would need to be corrected by a Gas Department employee.
Q:
How do I go about getting gas service?
A:
To get new service you need to go to the Building Department to apply
for a new meter. We can normally have service installed within two
weeks of receiving the application. If you have any questions please
don't hesitate to call the Gas Department.
