Police Department

Dear Citizen and Visitor,

2009 was a very busy year in the Alexander City Police Department. In addition to managing the day to day operations of the Department, this past year gave the command staff and I the opportunity to continue to move our Department forward in several areas, including technology advancements in the Patrol and Detective Divisions, the creation of a Crime Interdiction Task Force, the groundwork for a county wide Crime stoppers program, and expansion of our personnel strength and equipment through numerous grant awards.  In 2009, we forged a new liaison with the US Marshal Service and strengthened our existing relationships with surrounding agencies. In addition, the Alexander City Mayor and Council continued their strong support of the ACPD and our initiatives.  They continue to be our strongest ally in making this community a safe place to live and work.

In December, the Command Staff met and reviewed our progress toward our goals and objectives for 2009, and I am very pleased that we were able to meet over 90% of them for the second year in a row.  As you will see in this report, our personnel worked extremely hard in an effort to decrease felony criminal activity in our community and I am proud we were able to do so.  Our strength as a Department comes from our personnel and I am very pleased with the effort and caliber of our people, and the quality of the new Officers we attract and hire.

The Command Staff and I are looking forward to the challenges we face in 2010 and we welcome the Public’s input.  Please do not hesitate to contact me or any member of the Command Staff if you have concerns, questions, or comments.  Thank you for taking the time to stop by our web page.

Sincerely,
Charles B. Rafford
Chief of Police
