In February 2008 Mamie's Place Children's Library hosted story times featuring Winnie the Pooh. There were stories, songs and special treats. The total attendance was 26. |

On February 13, 2008 the Leadership Lake Martin Class came to Mamie's Place Children's Library for a tour. Kathryn Reed read the Gold miner's daughter and Winnie the Pooh made a surprise visit and gave everyone a very sweet treat to take with them. There were 20 in attendance. |

Lynn Johnsey and Santa Claus visited several local daycares during Christmas 2007 and surprised the children and gave each one a special treat. |

On December 4, 2007 Santa and his Elf made a surprise visit to the library. Santa read a story and had surprises for everyone. Everyone had a "jingle jangle good time". There were 55 in attendance. |

Mamie's Place Children's Library held Thanksgiving story time November 13-15. The characters from the book Beauty and the becks:a turkey's cautionary tale came alive and entertained the children. After the story the children danced the chicken dance. Everyone had a wonderful time and left looking forward to a very Happy Thanksgiving. There was a total of 185 in attendance. |

On October 25, 2007 Pirate John returned to the library. Pirate John and his crew entertained the audience with pirate tales and a treasure hunt. There were 54 in attendance. |

On September 29, 2007 the Alabama Shakespeare Festival visited the library and brought a special visitor along. The special visitor was Tinkerbell. The children got to dress up in costumes from the costume trunk and have their picture made with Tinkerbell. They also were treated to a special craft activity. There were 126 in attendance. |

On October 25,2007 Jacob's Ladder came to the library for a pirate program. The children enjoyed several pirate stories and a song and dance time. There were 65 in attendance. |

Fall Break Storytime was held in October 2007. The Scarecrow was the hit of the program. The combined attendance was 210. |

On September 6, 2007 Ms. Jennifer Thompson's class from Stephen's Elementary School came to the library to the Grandparent's Day Program. After the program the class enjoyed lunch on the pavilion at the library. |

On September 6, 2007 Mr. Wayne Creed from Lineville, Alabama read his book titled " The Little Boy and his Grandma" to celebrate Grandparent's Day.
There were 96 in attendance for this program. |

On May 23, 2007 Mamie's Place Children's Library held it's Summer Reading Program Kick-Off party. The theme for this years program is "Get A Clue At Your Library". Cowboy Bruce kicked off the Summer Reading Program with interesting facts about real cowboys and he dazzled the audience with his rope and bull whip tricks. After the show the children were treated to hot dogs, chips and juice courtesy of Gary and Melody Robertson. All the cowboys and cowgirls had a wonderful time. There were 180 in attendance. |

On August 24, 2006, the Alabama Municipal Electric Authority celebrated its 25th Anniversary. The festivities included a golf tournament and the spouses of the golfers got together for lunch and a painting activity. The finished painting needed a home and Joann Mathis of Alexander City Light Department found an excellent spot for it at Mamie's Place Children's Library. Lisa Miller and Sandjanetta Tellis recently presented the mural to the library staff. We welcome visitors to drop by to see this beautiful donation that is now hanging in the Children's Library. |

On July 25, 2007 Mamie's Place Children's Library held an awards party for the 2007 Summer Reading Program "Get a Clue @ Your Library". The total number of books read this summer was 7,008. The first and second place winners in each age group were presented with a trophy. Each child that participated in the Summer Reading Program was given a gift bag. After the awards were presented everyone enjoyed pizza at the pavillon.

On July 12, 2007 Carol Moore was at the Library Pavillon to give the children a clue about clay pottery. Each child was able to make a clay pot to take home with them. After the class everyone was treated to refreshments. Attendance 64 |

On July 10, 2007 artist John Moore came to Mamie's Place Children's Library to help the children "Get A Clue" about drawing. Everyone got to participate in the lesson. Mr. Moore demonstrated how to draw Scooby Doo. Attendance was 43. |

During the week of July 4th Mamie's Place Children's Library had a flag display. Children were encouraged to bring a flag to display. The flags were on display inside the library and outside at the brick wall. Thank you to everyone who participated. |

On June 28, 2007 the Alexander City Police Department presented a K-9 Dog demonstration. Thank you to Officers and Whitmore and Pike for a very informative program. Attendance was 71. |

On June 27, 2007 the Mcwane Science Center visited the library. They presented a program about “Freaky Forensics”. Attendance for both programs total 106. |

On June 21, 2007 Alan Broom and David McDaniel came to the Library to give the children a "Clue" about arrowheads. They brought their collections and talked about the different type of arrowheads and how to find them. They shared many interesting pieces from their collection with the children. Mr. McDaniel gave each child a arrowhead. After the program the children were served lemonade and "Arrowhead Cookies" compliments of Jeannie Sammis and Aliant Bank. There were 66 in attendance. |

On June 13, 2007 Ron Miller came to the library and brought a few bicycles from his collection. He talked about the different types of bicycles and how the design of the bicycle has changed through the years. Mr. Miller also brought a special treat for everyone it was the "Bowden Spacelander". There are only two of these bicycles in the world, Mr. Miller's and the other is on display at the Smithsonian. After the program everyone was treated to cake donated by Wal-Mart. The cake was decorated by Linda Pharr of Wal-Mart bakery. There were 50 in attendance. |

On June 12, 2007 Matt Armbrester and his cow "Daisy" came to the library to give the children a clue about the "Mystery of Milk". He shared many interesting facts about cows and how we get the milk we drink. After the presentation the children had ice cream. There were 80 in attendance. |

On June 7 the library had a very special visitor. Scooby stopped by the library for the Summer Reading Program. He visited with the children and danced to his favorite songs. There were 150 in attendance. |

The wall in front of Mamie's Place Children's Library was adorned with birdhouses to kick off Spring. The birdhouses were made or decorated by children in the community. We had several from local daycares, preschools and church groups. Each birdhouse was given an award. |

Mamie's Place patron is top reader at Huntington Learning Center in Montgomery, Alabama.
A local student who is a 4 th grader at Stephens Elementary made the most of his summer break by going to the Huntington Learning Center 4 days a week 4 hours at a time since May to improve his education.
Aaron read 38 books checked out from Mamie's Place for his reading assignment. As a result, he progressed an entire grade level in his reading.
We are proud to have Aaron as a library patron. He is indeed a smart student making the best of his summer. Oh yes, his favorite book was on rattlesnakes. |

Lynne Berry, a children's book author from Nashville, Tennessee, came to Mamie's Place Children's Library on Thursday, September 7, and read her latest book "The Curious Demise of a Contrary Cat" to the children and gave them masks that were characters from the book to color and decorate. Ms. Berry had her books for sale and gave some of the proceeds to benefit our library. |

"Once Upon A Time" at Mamie's Place Children's Library, there were 132 children who participated in a fairy tale of a summer by reading and recording 4,989 books in reading logs during the nine-week Summer Reading Program!

Mother Goose also brought along her friend Mr. Leon McCain who entertained the children with his fiddle and stories about his childhood. While Mr. McCain fiddled, he and Mother Goose led the children out to the refreshment tables where they enjoyed cookies and juice. Mother Goose also handed out golden eggs and special angel stickers. |

Once upon a time princesses, ballerinas, princes and knights came to Mamie's Place Children's Library. Cinderella read to the children and her Prince made an appearance along with a real live Ballerina. After the story the children had ice cream with "magical sprinkles". Each princess received a magical wand and each prince received a crown. |

Once upon a time...there was a handsome prince who just happened to be a frog. This handsome young prince, otherwise known as Spencer Oliver, came to the Children's Library on Wednesday morning, June 14, and read "The Frog Prince" to all the children gathered there. |

Once Upon a time Dorothy arrived at the Children's Library, along with the Lion, the Good Witch, the Bad Witch and Tin Man. Dorothy read the story The Wizard of Oz. After the story the children followed the yellow brick road that lead to refreshments of witch hat cookies and Oz juice. Each child received a prize. The date is June 8th, 2006. |

Once upon a time…. Little Crystal Mermaid visited Mamie's Place Children's Library . She sat by the fountain blowing bubbles and reading the story “The Little Mermaid”. After the story each child was given bubbles and a snack of “mermaid crunch” and “ocean juice”. They all had an ocean-rific time and lived happily ever after. |

Shortly afterward, Little Bo Peep arrived hunting her sheep, Daisy. Little Bo Peep read to the children for storytime, before all joined in the search for her sheep. All together 103 were involved in storytime on Thursday morning, June 1st at Mamie's Place. By the way, with the help of the children, Little Bo Peep found her sheep, Daisy. The children enjoyed petting Daisy and also were served refreshments for the program. Thanks goes to Monica Allen for use bringing Daisy the sheep. |

Mother's Day storytime with Rachel McDaniel was held on Thursday, May 11th. One Hundred and Forty Two attended the event. Robinson Headstart, Cooper Headstart and visitors helped make morning storytime a big success this year. All the children received paper balloons and refreshments for the Mother's Day program. |

The Easter Bunny made an early appearance at Mamie's Place Children's Library on Tuesday morning, April 11. He greeted and danced with the children from several local daycares and handed out special rabbits with a candy-filled egg before hopping on down the Bunny Trail.

Nationally known children's author, Nancy Shaw, came to Mamie's Place Children's Library on Tuesday, April 4, and shared some of her published stories including "Sheep in a Jeep," "Sheep in a Ship," "Sheep Out to Eat," and "Raccoon Tune," along with showing how a book is written, illustrated, and printed. |

A local student uses homeworkalabama.org to finish his math assignment. Students can access this from 3 pm-12 midnight daily with live on-line tutors. The library is a great place to connect with this valuable resource to help with school work. Mamie's Place is open 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday thru Friday and 8:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday.
