In 1996, property adjoining the library building was donated by the family of Mamie Alford to the City of Alexander City for use as a children's library. After five years of planning and fundraising, Mamie's Place Children's Library and Learning Center was completed and opened to the public in July, 2001. At the time of completion, this was the only separate free-standing facility used for children's services in the state. Year-round services are offered to all children in this community.
