Gee's Bend

On November 12, 2008 Tinnie Dell Pettway of "That's "Sew" Gee's Bend", Inc. was at the library and diplayed and talked about some of the quilts that she along with others from Gee's Bend had quilted. 

Veterans Day
On November 6, 2008 the Adelia M. Russell Library presented a Veteran's Day program.  The first speaker was Spencer Oliver, an 11 year-old Radney School student and library patron who was chosen to participate in the People to People program where he went on a trip to D.C.  Spencer shared pictures and spoke about his experience in Washington, D.C.

On November 6, 2008 the Adelia M. Russell Library presented a Veteran's Day program.

D.C. Author and Veteran Stanley Richardson spoke about his experiences in World War II and about his book Growing Up in a Foxhole.

Goodwill Industries Volunteer Services of Central Alabama

On October 23, 2008 the Goodwill Industries Volunteer Services of Central Alabama presented a fashion show of period clothing worn during the famous Titanic voyage.

Human Resource Workshop

The Adelia M. Russell Library with it's Director, Judy Tidwell, and Central Alabama Community College with it's Library Director, Denita Oliver, hosted a Human Resources workshop on Thursday, September 25th, 2008 at the Betty Carol Graham Center at the Community College. The morning session was an outstanding class on making the most of your people assets by following some constructive tips with the three C's of an effective office.  The afternoon class was on "Confronting without Attacking".   Ms. Lana Thompson, Certified Professional in Human Resources, presented the classes to over 90 people.

On August 20, 2008 Jory Lee as "Johnny Cash" performed at the Adelia M. Russell Library.  There were 120 in attendance.

Beatrix Potter Tea Party

On July 28, 2008 the Adelia M. Russell Library and Mamie's Place Children's Library hosted a Beatrix Potter Tea Party.  There were 10 in attendance.

On June 19, 2008 residents from Brown's Nursing Home came to the library and enjoyed an afternoon of crafts and activities.

April 2008

The Adelia M. Russell Library is proud to add to our collection a Bevelle/Avondale Memories area. This is in our Genealogy Room on the main floor of the library.

Included in the presentation are bound “Avondale Sun” newspapers, pictures of the area that are priceless from a wonderful era. There are pictures from the mill and also a large number of pictures from the community. They are of young and old people enjoying life in a simpler time. Memorabilia is also here for your enjoyment.

On February 12, 2008 the library hosted a Valentine's program "Ballads and Versesof Love" featuring Runas C. Powers, III accompanied by Marche Webb on guitar.  Mr. Powers  recited several poems from his new book Heart, Soul & Rhyme. There were 64 in attendance.  Everyone received an early Valentine's Day treat courtesy of the Adelia M. Russell Library.
